Shootout's Return Another Sign Of Normalcy | |

For the past five years about this time, Southwest Florida has opened its arms and rolled out the welcome mat for a pro golf showcase spearheaded by a champion of the game, Greg Norman.

We are especially happy to see The Franklin Templeton Shootout come this year.
It is a sign that Hurricane Wilma has taken a toll, but there is a limit.
We congratulate tournament officials and the grounds crew at North Naples' Tiburón Golf Club, where the administration's past experience with hurricanes has come in mighty handy. There were plenty of fallen trees and excess water to deal with.
When some of pro golf's biggest names tee it up this week, we trust that the traditionally robust crowds will be there to cheer them on. Frankly, with so many winter residents here early to check on storm damage to their property, the Shootout may have a bigger fan base than ever.
Regional tourism officials, who are concerned about Wilma's impact on would-be vacationers, will take special pleasure at the thought of CBS covering the proceedings. Though our area has hot spots of damage and some neighbors who are hurting, it will be satisfying to see a major golf event being held as scheduled in Naples, Florida. We can imagine millions of golf fans thinking: That's the same place that got hit by a hurricane three weeks ago?
