Big Crowds Expected At Shootout | |
By Greg Hardwig
Naples Daily News
Just over a year after a woman named Wilma ruined preparations for Greg Norman's Shootout, another one has provided a boost to exposure and ticket sales.
 | | The Shootout offers fans a unique perspective on the game not available at other TOUR events. |

Crowds already were bustling at The Franklin Templeton Shootout at Tiburón Golf Club, and it was only Thursday -- 12 1/2 months after Hurricane Wilma ravaged Southwest Florida.
"Today's crowd was larger than the average pro-am day that we've experienced in the past few years," tournament director Taylor Ives said. "Concession sales were up approximately 20 percent for the day, and yesterday's concession was up 60 percent."
The reason? Annika Sorenstam, at least in some part. The first-ever woman to tee it up in the Shootout has brought the fans out.
Norman credited the fact another year has passed with the tournament in Naples, as well as the quality of the field. "But let's not forget Annika," he said. "I think she has just been a huge attraction for this event."
Advance ticket sales were up 30-35 percent over last year, Ives said, and that doesn't count walkup sales, which Ives said usually account for 20 percent or so of overall tickets sold. And those numbers aren't inflated due to a lower number from last year connected with Hurricane Wilma.
