NEWS & NOTES |
- The team of Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele became the first rookie team to win the event. The pair finished with a 54-hole total of 32-under-par 184, the lowest winning score in this event since 2002 when Rocco Mediate and Lee Janzen finished with a 54-hole score of 185. Bradley and Steele were just one shy of the lowest 54-hole at the current site.; Brad Faxon and Scott McCarron posted a 33-under-par 183 in 2001. The all-time mark is 34-under-par 182 by Fred Couples and Raymond Floyd in 1990 when the tournament was staged at Sherwood CC in Thousand Oaks, CA. Bradley and Steele shared $750,000 with the win.
- Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele finished the tournament with 28 birdies and three eagles. They were also 31-under over their final 45 holes.
- The winning three-stroke margin was the largest since 2008 when Kenny Perry and Scott Hoch won by four strokes over J.B. Holmes and Boo Weekley.
- Being part of the winning team capped a terrific rookie season on the PGA TOUR for Keegan Bradley. In addition to his wins at the PGA Championship and the HP Byron Nelson Championship, he also captured the PGA’s Grand Slam of Golf, which featured the winners of the four major championships.
- Mark Calcavecchia and partner Nick Price birdied the final hole to help the Champions Tour duo earn a tie for second place with the team of Rory Sabbatini and Jhonattan Vegas. Calcavecchia and Price shared $375,000 along with Sabbatini and Vegas.
- Mark Calcavecchia’s second-place finish marked the eighth time in his career he has posted a top-5 finish in the tournament. He is now second in that category on the all-time list behind Mark O’Meara with nine.
- Playing a scramble format on Sunday, the teams of Stewart Cink/Bo Van Pelt and Charles Howell III/Justin Leonard each shot 14-under-par scores of 58, the day’s best rounds.
- Tournament host Greg Norman and his partner Scott McCarron finished 11th.
